Yarra Trams was seeking to improve the accuracy of their passenger information displays, and improve the overall user experience for all commuters using the Yarra Tram network. Engagis worked with Yarra Trams to develop a GPS tram-tracking system and link the data to purpose built, easy-to-read Digital Signage installed at major tram stops. As well as displaying arrival and departure information, these digital displays were also configured to be able to show ticketing information and network and route maps.
Engagis also developed a unique interface that switches the main toolbar from the top of the display to the lower section, so people in wheelchairs can access information. Yarra Trams have also begun integrating digital media and audio content and directly communicate brand messages to commuters. The organisation now puts campaigns into market much faster than they did with print media, using the Yarra Trams digital signage network.
Feedback from commuters was immediate and positive. Additionally, the digital display and interactive applications have been designed so they can be rolled-out onto any desktop or mobile device with web capabilities. The branding and communication platform stays exactly the same across the entire suite of more than 80 locations across Australia. The flexibility, speed and ease-of-use of the Yarra Trams digital signage system means it’s still a hit with customers.
